《明我以德》并不是正式意义上的香港大学的校歌，但其作为香港大学百年校庆纪念歌曲，在某种意义上已经被大家认为是香港大学的校歌。港大的校歌朗朗上口，更加贴近学生，更加有利于传唱。香港大学作为世界名校，其校友也是人才济济，整首歌从作词作曲到演唱，都是有香港大学优秀毕业校友完成的。歌词是由香港著名作词人林夕所写，作为香港大学校友，林夕巧妙地把香港大学的校训“明德格物”写在歌词中，在保持歌词通俗易懂的同时，也没有失去作为一所世界名校校歌所具有的文化底蕴。曲是由香港乐坛歌神级歌手许冠杰作曲，许冠杰也是香港大学校友，在作曲方面，许冠杰并没有把整首歌写成通俗型曲调，但是也没有将其写成传统意义上的商业歌曲，整首歌给听众的感觉就好像香港大学一样，把东西方文化交融在一起。整首歌是由香港新生代的两位歌手，也是香港大学校友谢安琪&许廷铿共同演唱。两人的演唱使得整首歌更加的流行于香港大学的学生中，甚至被很多大陆的高中学生所喜欢，也激励中许多怀有香港大学读书梦的学生努力前行，去实现自己的港大梦！
