爱是什么？含义
一般来说，爱的含义包括两方面：一方面是对象能满足自己某种需要的喜欢，有索取的意思。比如，对兔子来说，“萝卜青菜，各有所爱。”另一方面，就是希望对象好，爱护，有“奉献”的意思。这两方面是相辅相成的。
在爱情领域，希望对方（异性）好，为对方做“奉献”，多数情况下都是有条件的：第一，对方没有配偶、没有恋爱对象。否则，盲目向一位异性献花，尽管是一种“爱的奉献”，但有可能被认为是调戏，招致一阵打骂。第二，向对方“奉献”，是希望对方成为自己的爱人。如果对方不可能成为自己的爱人，那么，一般就不可能再对对方有继续“奉献”的积极性。而且，如果再做“奉献”的话，还会对对方的生活带来骚扰，甚至受到《治安管理处罚法》等法律的追究。当然，在内心里希望对方生活过得好，那是可以的。作为一般的男女关系，即使没有爱情，也应该和平相处。
爱，一般来说，是主体（自己）与客体（对象）的一种合作、交易关系。这包括广义上对爱的理解，如爱祖国、爱大自然。爱祖国，因为祖国是我们赖以生存的家。祖国的基本要素包括：国人、土地。中国人对中国人的爱，我们时刻离不开别的中国人的帮助，自己对别人也要有帮助之心（当然助人为乐也要注意能力，不提倡砸锅卖铁搞慈善）。对祖国土地的爱，衣食住行都离不开国土，当然也要爱护国土，不能被外敌侵占。爱大自然，因为大自然为我们的生活提供良好的生态条件。在向大自然索取生活资料的同时，要保持好大自然的生态平衡，这样，大自然才能源源不断地为我们提供生活资料。
所以，一般来说，爱是利益互动的关系，没有无缘无故的爱。如果单方面地大喊“爱是奉献”，那并不等于理解了“爱”的含义。当然，也不能简单地理解爱的“交易”关系。在人与人之间的“爱”里面，有一种爱是单方面奉献的，类似于法律上的单务合同，只讲义务不讲权利。常见的是对老弱病残等弱势群体的奉献。为什么不少人对自己只有损失、没有好处的“奉献”，如慈善捐款那么积极呢？因为人类自身也要讲生态平衡，足够数量的人口能够确保子孙后代的优生，同时自己也有沦为弱势的必然。这需要用实际行动，维持“奉献”的价值理念。从长远角度说，力所能及地多做善事、多做奉献，对自己、对子孙后代都有好处。
另外，还有“舍身取义”式的爱，为所爱对象甚至不惜献出自己的生命。这怎么解释？这需要用某哲学家所的“人类有四种境界”来说明：第一种是极端自私，第二种是对圈子里的人会讲奉献，第三种是讲社会道德（如前面所说的，包括对弱势群体的单方面奉献），第四种是对宇宙负责的天人境界。像革命先烈为真理而献身，“杀头不要紧，只要主义真。”还有“母爱”，有的当母亲的女人，她也不一定懂得高深的思想，但是在某种危急关头，她会把生的希望留给孩子。比如某年某地客车自燃，有个年轻母亲逃不出来，就把孩子从车窗递出来，而自己被烧死。这种母爱，也可以说是属于对宇宙负责的天人境界。
